Replaces any transparent areas

JPEG cannot preserve transparency. Transparent areas use the background colour above.

The browser re-encodes the image. Colours and metadata may differ from the original; keep your source file and verify the result before sharing. This is not a certified metadata-removal tool.

Percentage or pixels?

Percentage scales both dimensions together. Pixels are useful when an email, website or platform asks for a specific width and height.

Choose the right format.

JPEG is usually suited to photos. PNG preserves transparent areas and sharp graphics, but can be larger. WebP supports transparency and efficient compression where accepted.

Know the size units.

This tool uses decimal units: 1 KB = 1,000 bytes and 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes. Other applications may use different units or apply their own upload rules.

Common questions

Can I make an image exactly 1 MB?

A file-size setting is an upper-size target, not an exact-byte guarantee. Format, content, quality and permitted dimension changes affect what is possible. Check the reported result size.

Will resizing remove confidential information?

Not reliably. Re-encoding can change metadata but is not certified metadata removal or redaction. Check both visible content and metadata before sharing sensitive images.
