Māori recognition, including macrons, depends on scan quality and the language model. Always review the result; this is not a translation tool.

The recognition engine and language files download from this site when you start. The first run can take a little longer. File contents are not uploaded or saved in browser storage.

Ready when you are.

02 / Review your text

Ready for your next step.

OCR can misread names, numbers, punctuation and accents. Review the original before using or sharing the result. Formatting, tables and columns may not be preserved.

No text extracted yet.

Downloads contain plain text (.txt), not a searchable PDF. Nothing is automatically sent to Kiwinove. Clear the page when finished, especially on a shared device.

A clearer scan helps.

Use sharp, upright images with good lighting. Handwriting, tiny text, stamps and decorative fonts are less reliable. This is text recognition, not document authentication or translation.

Keep your device comfortable.

Pages are rendered one at a time, at up to 2,800 pixels on the longest side and 5 megapixels. Large images are scaled down for recognition; fine detail may be lost. Processing can take longer on mobile.

Your document stays yours.

We host the open-source OCR engine and language models. Normal website requests may be logged by the hosting provider, but the tool does not send your image, PDF or extracted text with those requests.

  3. Extract the text, check it against the original, then copy or download a TXT file.

Common questions

Can it read a scanned PDF without selectable text?

Yes. Selected PDF pages are rendered as images and processed with OCR, up to the tool’s page and device limits. The output is plain text, not a searchable PDF.

How accurate is Māori OCR?

It depends on scan quality, fonts and the language model. Review macrons, names and numbers carefully. OCR is not translation, document authentication or a guarantee of an exact transcription.
